England is having a football moment. And it's all down to the girls. The Lionesses play reigning champions Japan in the semi-finals tomorrow. Only twice before has any England side reached the final four of a World Cup. These Weekly Wonder Women are triumphing in the most male of industries. They are the ultimate role models, hoping to inspire a generation of young women to get into the game.
"It's the biggest game in English women's football and I can't wait," said team Captain Steph Houghton. "English women's football is getting bigger and bigger each year and we knew the Olympics was a massive moment for us but to go that step further, it's a huge opportunity to try and inspire young girls to play and look at us as heroes. That's what drives us on as well, to give them that opportunity to play international football when they are older."
Inspiring, strategic, strong: it's a winning combination.
